Transcript

Welcome to the scent of light. This is Ken Norton. Today I would like to talk about Grace. My mentor William Hermanns included Grace as one of his Ten Words to the Creative Spirit, to which I dedicated a previous episode. Here is the line: "Give me Grace so I walk uplifted through the day." Both he and I were greatly influenced by Catholicism and were heavily exposed to the "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee...", the prayer of the Rosary quoting the Gospel of Luke in the account of the angelic voice announcing the conception of Jesus. Grace is used here as a favor from God whose Holy Spirit was "overshadowing" Mary to bring forth an heir to King David's throne of past glory to rule forever into the future.

The word is also used in addressing an archbishop, duke or Duchess, and here one expects graces or favors to flow.

Gratefulness is a wonderfully simple practice to awaken one to the Grace in my life. It helps me to recognize that in my life that arises beyond my control, beyond my intellectual abilities. I am reminded by the recent birth of our great granddaughter of just how dependent we are arriving in the world for milk and warmth and shelter, and a wipe of the butt. We grow up and master walking, talking and learning rules of Human behavior in the culture of our parents and their place in society. We become adept in applying this learning in our own lives passing it down to later generations. We are rewarded for this ability in Society, we come to believe that our life is our own making, due to our own hard work. The choices we make leads to experiences to make more choices.

However, there are other dimensions at work at the same time, expressed in the laws governing the universe and our nature here on Earth. Whether inside our body or in the environment there are many forces working outside of our control. Our heartbeat and the digestive movements within our body, the blood flow, the actions of tendons and muscles in movement, the electromagnetic activity within our body's nervous system, throughout the earth, and the stars and planets of our galaxy, are all occurring at the same moment as we are controlling some tiny little part that deals with our life mission with our decision.

It is important to have a sense of continuity with ones decisions rising from our control. However,a sense of humility for just how much control we have over our experience is needed for a more expanded sense of reality. This is the reason for the prayer for Grace. There is a recognition of help outside of oneself. There is a desire to be connected to the whole of life as we progress. The Declaration of this desire is a tuning of our consciousness to prepare reception for the new Bridge for our previous train of choices. In the consciousness of "full of grace" a solution to step further into the future in a good way is conceived. The consciousness of grace in our life affects us in our movements, as well. Grace can also refer to elegant and refined movement, harmonious to observe, evoking a sense of gratitude.

There is gracefulness in presence, which affects those in our presence. In the Sixties we called this Good Vibrations, which even merited a hit song from the Beach Boys.

“Give me Grace so I walk uplifted through the day."

I recite the ten Words to the Creative Spirit every morning before I begin my meditation. Through the Grace vibrating through my mentor the poem was conceived, and through the Grace vibrating through me the words are remembered.

Synchronicity:

The day after the broadcast of the show I read this poem of Hafiz:

Now is the time

Now is the time to know
That all that you do is sacred.

Now, why not consider
A lasting truce with yourself and God.

Now is the time to understand
That all your ideas of right and wrong
Were just a child's training wheels
To be laid aside
When you can finally live
With veracity
And love.

Hafiz is a divine envoy
Whom the Beloved
Has written a holy message upon.

My dear, please tell me,
Why do you still
Throw sticks at your heart
And God?

What is it in that sweet voice inside
That incites you to fear?

Now is the time for the world to know
That every thought and action is sacred.

This is the time
For you to deeply compute the impossibility
That there is anything
But Grace.

Now is the season to know
That everything you do
Is sacred
